When someone nearby needs a plumber, a handyman or a landscaper, they usually don’t start on your website. They start on Google, and the box that pops up with your hours, photos and reviews is doing the selling before you ever say hello. Here are seven simple habits that make that box work harder.
1. Make your categories specific
Your primary category tells Google what you are. “Handyman” is good; adding secondary categories for the specific jobs you want more of is better.
2. Add real photos, often
Photos of your team, your truck and finished jobs build trust faster than any sentence. Add a few new ones every month so your profile looks alive.
“Your Google profile is your storefront for everyone who hasn’t met you yet.”
3. Answer questions before they’re asked
Use the Q&A and services sections to answer what customers always ask: areas you serve, typical timelines and whether quotes are free.
4. Post updates monthly
Short posts about recent jobs, seasonal tips or special offers signal that you’re active and give people one more reason to call.
5–7. Reviews, replies and quick responses
Ask every happy customer for a review, reply to each one personally, and make sure every call from your profile gets a quick answer. Those three habits alone can change how often your phone rings.
